Ruby for Sun -Surya and Various Lagna
Now we are going to start a series on gemstones. In this series we are going to elaborate the gemstones of nine planets-navagraha and their suitability according to Ascedants or Lagna.
It should be noted that the vedic rituals are to be performed before wearing gemstones of any graha-planet, if the expected, desired and favorable results are to be obtained.

We are going to start the series by the gemstone of king of Planets, Sun-Surya which is Ruby or Manikya.
Ruby is the gemstone of Sun.Therefore, if Sun is the lord of an auspicious house in a nativity, the native will be favored with beneficial results if he wear a ring with ruby set in it. If Sun being lord of an auspicious house is afflicted in any way, ruby will neutralize the consequent evil effects.
For the Aries Ascendant-Lagna
Sun is lord of the 5th house (a trine) and is friend of Mars the lord of the Ascendant. Therefore, natives of Aries can always wear a ruby for acquiring intelligence, for improvement of spiritual power, for being blessed with children, for achieving name and fame and for gains and favors from government. Wearing of a ruby will be especially beneficial in the major period of Sun.
For the Taurus Ascendant-Mesha Lagna
Sun will be lord of the 4th house (a quadrant), but Sun is an enemy of Venus, the lord of the Ascendant. Therefore, ruby will prove beneficial for the natives with this Ascendant, if it is worn in the major period of Sun. By wearing ruby the natives will gain peace of mind, get comforts, achieve success in educational matters, gain land or house property, get happiness from the mother’s side and acquire conveyances.
For the Gemini Ascendant- Vrisha Lagna
Sun will be lord of the 3rd house.Therefore, it would not be advisable for the natives of this Ascendant to wear ruby except in the major period of Sun if he is in his own sign in the 3rd house.
For the Cancer Ascendant- Kark Lagna
Sun will be lord of the 2rd house, the house of wealth. Sun is also a friend of Moon, the lord of this Ascendant. Therefore, the native of this Ascendant will benefit by wearing a ruby if the native faces loss of wealth or suffers from diseases of eyes. The house is also maraka sthana (house of death). Therefore it would be advisable to wear ruby with pearl, the gemstone of the lord of Ascendant. Ruby will prove particularly beneficial if it is worn in the major period of Sun.
For the Leo Ascendant – Sinha Lagna
Sun will be the lord of the Ascendant.Ruby will act as a protective charm m for the natives of this Ascendant and they can wear it for their whole life. By wearing ruby the natives will be protected from enemies, will enjoy good mental and physical health and also get long life. They will also achieve success in their professional ventures and gain wealth and spiritual power. For the natives of this ascendant ruby is a must if Sun is afflicted in any way and the native faces hardship and distress on that account.
For the Virgo Ascendant- Kanya Lagna
Sun is lord of the 12th house (the house of loss and expenditure). The natives of this Ascendant should wear a ruby only in the major period of Sun if he is in his own sign in the 12th house. Otherwise, they should never wear a ruby.
For the Libra Ascendant- Tula Lagna
Sun who is an enemy of Venus, lord of this Ascendant is lord of the 11th house. The natives of this Ascendant will have gains of wealth if ruby is worn in the major period of Sun. If Sun is afflicted in any way and the native suffers from losses in all his ventures, ruby can be worn always.
For the Scorpio Ascendant-Vrishchik Lagna
Sun is the lord of the 10th house (the house of profession, name and fame). He is also a friend of Mars, the lord of this ascendant. For the Sagittarius Ascendant-Dhanu Lagna
Sun is the lord of the 9th house (the house of bhagya). Sun in this case is also a friend of lord of the ascendant Jupiter. Therefore natives of this ascedent can wear ruby to enjoy good fortune, for happiness and longevity of father. Ruby will be particularly beneficial in the major period of sun.
For the Capricorn Ascendant-Makar Lagna
Sun is the lord of the 8th house (the house of unluckiness, death) which is considered a very inauspicious house. It has been said that moon and sun have been exempted to ashtamesh dasha. But in spite of these we consider it inadvisable for the natives of this ascendant to use a ruby.
For the Aquarius Ascendant-Kumbha Lagna
Sun is the lord of the 7th house (the house of maarkesh). Moreover as said above the lord of ascendant is a bitter enemy of sun it will therefore not be advisable for the natives of this ascendant to wear ruby even if the sun be in his own sign.
For the Pisces Ascendant-Meena Lagna
Sun is the lord of the 6th house which is also considered an inauspicious house. The natives of this ascendant may wear Ruby only in the major period of sun if he be in his own sign, in the sixth house.
IMPORTANT:
Ruby should never be worn along with diamond, blue sapphire and cat’s eye. It can be worn along with pearl, red coral, emerald and yellow sapphire.
